In an upcoming Intelligence Forums session on Social Mobility, each subject matter expert has just six minutes to share their insights. Thankfully I love a good challenge and have decided to structure my talk on six steps that took me on a path that the Institute of Fiscal Studies calculates would ordinarily take five generations to achieve…. Let’s go:
🚫 Realising I didn’t want to repeat a cycle
👩🏫 Getting a second chance at education
🚺 Meeting the role models I needed to see
🚗 Having something tangible to aim for
👨👩👧👦 Seeing a different version of family life
🤝 Managers who hired for ‘add’ and not ‘fit’
There’s some other bits and pieces in their too (soft skills training, financial literacy insights, fabulous mentors and colleagues who were an absolute laugh to work with, friends who didn’t reject me because I didn’t have the same financial capital or cultural cues), but that would take more than six minutes. So if you want the full story, you’ll have to book me to speak! Like the team at Enterprise did. And they even let me hold their UK Social Mobility Awards award 😁
