As someone who’s worked in and around the tech industry for more than 25 years, I’m always struck by how the myth persists that you need to be:

* A man
* A techy
* A graduate

As someone who doesn’t meet the above criteria, I thought I’d share 10 jobs I’ve had that your teacher won’t tell you about (not because they’re a bad person – simply because they do not know!):

☎️ Telesales / business development (yes, this still very much exists today!)

📊 Sales operations manager (those systems won’t integrate themselves)

👩‍💼 Inside Sales Manager (with my own team and everything)

🤝 Partner Account Manager (one of my absolute favourites)

📝 Copywriter (websites, emails and whitepapers do not write themselves)

✍️ Ghostwriter (because senior leaders seriously do not have time to write)

🎧 Podcast host (sometimes CIOs like to hear people speaking about business use cases for AI when they’re walking the dog ;))

🎥 Webinar host (sometimes subject matter experts need a high-energy individual to gee up the audience and make sure things run to time)

🏆 Awards host (sometimes you need someone who gets the industry (and costs less than Jimmy Carr 😉)

🎤 Keynote speaker (sometimes a story from someone who is a few steps closer to the audience will resonate more. See also the above point!)

Got a job that you’d add to this list? Leave a comment below! And if you’re looking for someone to help dispel myths about what goes on in the world of tech, and who can entertain and engage your audience, hope over to the contact page or drop me an email at [email protected]
